First Credit Union making a difference globally
MEDIA RELEASE 19 MAY 2023
First Credit Union (FCU) is proud to be supporting its global peers make a difference to members who have been impacted by the war on Ukraine.
Recently FCU has made donations to both the World Council of Credit Union’s (WOCCU) Ukrainian Displacement Fund and the Via Stella Foundation.
FCU Chief Executive, Simon Scott said that “FCU is part of a global network of Credit Unions in 118 countries, serving close to 400 million members. As a movement, we are able to leverage off our core philosophy of ‘people helping people’ to ensure that assistance is provided to those in need.”
“It’s been over a year since the war on Ukraine started, and through initiatives set up by these funds we are able to address immediate needs whilst working towards a sustainable future for our fellow Credit Union’s and members.”
The team at WOCCU have been working alongside Ukrainian Credit Unions to mitigate both short and long-term impacts of the war to Ukraine’s credit union system, supporting employees, members and those displaced.
The Via Stella Fund is dedicated to assisting refugees in Poland to support the millions of Ukrainian refugees who remain in Poland, mostly women and children, providing a pathway to safety that elevates refugees from relief dependency to stability.
Simon said, “We know Ukrainian Credit Unions and their members have a long road ahead of them. Making these donations allows FCU to directly support initiatives to help get the Ukrainian movement back on its feet.”
