MASTERCARD® ID CHECK

At First Credit Union it’s our job to keep you safer while you’re shopping online, and to make sure the only person making purchases with your debit card is you.

We have introduced a quick and easy extra layer of security called Mastercard® ID Check. Mastercard® ID Check helps us make sure it’s definitely you (and not someone pretending to be you with your card) online.

  • If you’re planning to travel overseas, please let us know before you go.

Some international merchants and terminals operate differently to those in New Zealand, which can occasionally cause card payments to be declined — even when you’re within your usual limits.

To help ensure your Debit Mastercard works smoothly while you’re away, we recommend advising us of:

    ·         The countries you’ll be visiting

    ·         Your travel dates

This allows us to take steps to reduce the chance of unexpected declines while you’re overseas.

    Helpful tips while travelling

    ·         Where possible, enter your PIN rather than signing for transactions

    ·         PayWave/contactless is often the easiest option and will prompt for PIN on higher‑value purchases

    ·         If a transaction is declined, try another terminal or payment method and contact us if the issue continues

Let us know about your travel plans by contacting us before you leave.

  • Full Mastercard Debit Card T&Cs apply and are available from your local branch. Fees, service charges and overseas transaction charges apply. For details of fees applicable to your account please see our Rates and Fees.

  • If you have checked your First Credit Union accounts via Internet or Mobile Banking you may notice that some of your recent transactions have Pending next to them.

When you make a transaction/ payment using your First Credit Union Mastercard Debit Card the funds come out of your account immediately, however, if they have 'pending' next to them there are a few reasons why this may happen:

    • Authorisations
    • Pre-authorisations
    • Verifications

For more information about these transactions check out our FAQs.
